Description: Prepares histologic slides and tissue sections for
microscopic examination and diagnosis by Pathologist. Works at
other facilities performing the same functions, as required. Works
alternate shifts, weekends, and holidays as needed to adequately
provide services. Performs other duties and projects as assigned.
Utilizes the Information System to receive samples, order tests,
and document quality control activities. Confirms accuracy of
patient sample identification prior to performing processes.
Evaluates specimen quality and identifies when unacceptable
specimens are received. Documents information concerning quality of
specimens. Prepares sections of human tissue for immediate
examination using rapid tissue processing and frozen section
technique. Operates tissue processing equipment to fix, dehydrate,
and infiltrate tissue specimens for preservation. Performs tissue
sectioning using microtome, and prepares slides, stains, and
coverslips. Performs special and immunohistochemical stains and
procedures as necessary. Performs gross examination on designated
specimens under the direction of a Pathologist. Maintains filing
system and records for slides, blocks, and tissues. Performs daily
preventative maintenance of equipment. Must be qualified to perform
high complexity testing according to CLIA 493.1489 Standard. Flu
and COVID vaccinations are required. Holiday coverage is required.
