skills Description: This position is in a medical-surgical unit.
The unit cares for a diverse patient population. Half of the
patients are elderly, primarily those aged 65 and older. Common
conditions include dementia, stroke, delirium, diabetes, and heart
failure. The other half of the unit accommodates observation
patients. This side of the unit has a faster pace. Patients on this
side may be admitted for less than 24 hours. The nurse-to-patient
ratio is 1:5 during the day shift. During the night shift, the
ratio is 1:6-7. Required skills include providing wound care and
handling insulin drips. Experience with chest tubes, NGT, and PEG
tubes is preferred. Candidates should be able to read and interpret
telemetry strips. Support staff includes receptionists during the
day and evening shifts. A certified nursing assistant is available,
with a ratio of 1:6 during the day and 1:8 at night. A charge nurse
is present, operating under a modified structure. Respiratory
therapy and hospitalists are available 24/7. The unit utilizes a
security system for patients at elopement risk. Charting is
conducted using an electronic medical record system. Floating may
occur to other medical-surgical units or intensive care units.
Weekend rotations are mandatory based on the unit's needs. Holiday
expectations will be communicated during onboarding. Scrub colors
are flexible as long as they are professional. No call shifts are
