KVH Industries, Inc's Inertial Navigation Group, located in Tinley Park, IL, is looking for a highly motivated physicist/engineer, specialized in characterizing, evaluating, analyzing, and packaging photonic integrated circuit and fiber optic system, to join our team as a Junior Optical Engineer.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
---Work closely with System/Photonic/Electrical Engineers to develop new optical sensor and optical inertial sensor products and to enhance current inertial sensor products.
---Prepare and conduct experiments on newly developed optical components and subsystems, including planning tests, setting up testing device and instrument, collecting data and analyzing results.
---Provide technical support and help to colleague engineers and scientists in system level, such as building prototype version of newly designed devices, supplying evaluation data on prototype for analysis.
---Support on-going manufacturing; data acquisition development, assembling automation, tolerance determinations and test procedures.
---Bachelor of Science degree in optics, electronics, photonics, physics or closely related field. Recent graduates will be considered.
---Excellent conceptual, analysis and problem-solving ability.
---Strong computational, laboratory and instrumentation skills.
---Hands-on experience on working with lasers, different light sources, photonics integrated circuit chips, optical fibers, optic and electro-optic components.
---Experience with PC-to-instrument communication for data acquisition and device controls.
---Strong writing, verbal and presentation skills in English language.
---U.S. Citizenship or Permanent Residency required.
---Hands-on experience working with inertial sensors such as gyroscopes, accelerometers, atomic clocks and IMUs.
---Working experience with Microsoft's .net platform, MATLAB, Solidworks, TracePro and/or Zemax.
---Working experience with bulk/waveguide optic and electrooptic materials.
---Familiar with concept of inertial navigation algorithms.
---Master of Science degree
